Positive form

Used to + infinitive

При­мер:

I used toplay in the garden in my childhood.

Question form: в во­про­си­тель­ной форме перед под­ле­жа­щим ста­вит­ся вспо­мо­га­тель­ный гла­гол did. К гла­го­лу use окон­ча­ние -ed не до­бав­ля­ет­ся.

Did … use to + infinitive?

При­мер:

Did you use toplay in the garden in your childhood?

Negative form: в от­ри­ца­тель­ной форме после под­ле­жа­ще­го ста­вит­ся вспо­мо­га­тель­ный гла­гол did и от­ри­ца­тель­ная ча­сти­цаnot. К гла­го­лу use окон­ча­ние -ed не до­бав­ля­ет­ся.

 Примеры использования конструкции used to

Кон­струк­ция used to вы­ра­жа­ет ре­гу­ляр­ныесо­сто­я­ния/си­ту­а­ции и при­выч­ки/дей­ствияв про­шлом (refers to past habits andstates). Этот обо­рот ис­поль­зу­ет­ся для опи­са­ния со­бы­тий, ко­то­рые ре­гу­ляр­но про­ис­хо­ди­ли в про­шлом, а потом пре­кра­ти­лись – либо на время, либо на­все­гда. Также used to ис­поль­зу­ет­ся при опи­са­нии со­сто­я­ний, ко­то­рые имели место в про­шлом, а потом из­ме­ни­лись (We use it for something that happened regularly in the past or for something that was true but no longer is).

При­мер:

I used to go to the south with my parents when I was a child. – Когда я был ре­бен­ком, мы ез­ди­ли с ро­ди­те­ля­ми на юг.

She used to be afraid of dogs when she was a child. – Когда она была ре­бен­ком, она бо­я­лась собак.

He used to have curly hair when he was a child. – В дет­стве у него были куд­ря­вые во­ло­сы.

We used to live in Spain but now we live in France. – Рань­ше мы жили в Ис­па­нии, а те­перь живем во Фран­ции.

When I was 5, my father used to take me out fishing. And he used to tell me that if I talked, the fish could hear me and be scared away. To this day when I go fishing, I hardly say one word.

I used to go to the kindergarten. – Я ходил в дет­ский сад.

I used to watch TV with my dolls. – Я смот­ре­ла те­ле­ви­зор с моими кук­ла­ми.

I used to eat a lot of chocolate. – Я ел много шо­ко­ла­да.

I used to speak like a child. – Я раз­го­ва­ри­вал как ре­бе­нок.

I used to have a small bike. – У меня был ма­лень­кий ве­ло­си­пед.

Listen and read the text.

One hundred years ago schools were very different. Children didn’t wear their everyday clothes to school. They learned to read, write and do mathematics. They had History and Geography but they didn’t learn Science. They used to write on slates with chalks. When the children finished their work, they cleaned their slates with a rag so that they could write on them again and again. When they were older, children learned to write with pens and ink. They didn’t have many books as they were very expensive. They didn’t do sports at school like baseball or volleyball or football or table tennis.
