A riddle is a statement or question or phrase having a double or veiled  (завуалированный, скрываемый)​ meaning, put forth as a puzzle to be solved.

Archaeologists considered that history of riddles and puzzles is more than thousands years old. 

In temples from Japan, Tibet and China, you can find many of reveal mathematical formulas.

They were mainly used for a gaming, 

but they also led to the modern version of board games, for example, chess.

The history of riddles isn't so simple. It's not limited with any single place or culture,

because we can found riddles all over the world. 

There are riddles from Hungary, Persia, India, Africa, 

Philippines, Scandinavia, Mongolia, Russia and China.

The people solving riddles were mostly from Egypt and Greece.

Riddles are believed to have originated in Greek when mentors (наставники) spread out questions

that were meant to stimulate thought. Most of the riddles involved the Sun and Moon and the Rainbow and Wind.

In the Middle Ages, riddles were used to pass along information about war plans 

between allies or assassination attempts (попытки покушений)  on Kings or Princes.
