What are the differences between reported speech and direct speech?
v If somebody has told you something, this is going to be a quote.
A "quote" means you copy the person's words exactly - DIRECT SPEECH.
v If you are using reported speech, this means
that you don't use somebody's exact words,
and you don't use quotation marks .
What others have said to you, In English grammar, this is known as
REPORTED SPEECH.
Why do we use reported speech?
We use it to report or to write down what somebody has said.
The most commonly used verbs in reported speech - say, tell and ask.
Ø Say something to someone. Say is commonly used without a personal pronoun
Ø Tell someone something.
Ø Ask someone if or whether or question word. Ask is used in reported questions.
